We recently discussed the advantages a great deck can bring to your home. Unlike a patio, a deck is elevated. Decks offer the convenience of being able to walk outside from the second floor of your home, but they also provide you a greater vantage point to view your surroundings.
Rooftop decks are becoming more popular, and for good reason... is there any better place to enjoy the view than perched right above your home? Whether you live in the city or country, if your views are skyscrapers or rolling hills, or if you enjoy watching the sunrise or set, a rooftop deck offers you those gorgeous views right outside your door. Add a fireplace for chilly evenings, an outdoor kitchen for summer grilling and some comfortable seating and you've extending your living area to the wide open spaces. What could be better than that?
Spring is here, the temps are rising, flowers are blooming and Mother Nature is finally awakening from her deep, frozen slumber. Spring is the perfect time to start spending more time outside. And a comfortable outdoor living space is a great way to do it.
Decks. What a great concept they are. An extension of both your home and the great outdoors. Decks bring the inside out, and the outside and little closer in. Add some comfortable lounge seating with big cushy throw pillows for long conversations with cold beverages in hand, a table and chairs for leisurely dining, and a grill for, well, grilling up a delicious meal. What an ideal way to spend your evenings or weekends with family and friends.
Whether you're looking to improve or expand upon your existing deck, or install a brand new one, Sundance Homes can help you put that plan into action and get you enjoying a little more of your outdoor surroundings.
A large kitchen island offers so many benefits: extra cabinetry and amenities,
work and display space, and additional seating.
Depending on the size of your island you can really increase your storage space by adding cabinets, drawers, pull-out shelving, even a hidden garbage or recycle bin. The possibilities are endless.
Want a prep sink? An island is a great way to integrate that into your kitchen. And with all that counter space you have the perfect work area for chopping and assembling your favorite cuisine. Adding amenities like a prep sink, a dishwasher and/or an under counter microwave makes your kitchen more useful and functional.
Have kids? Well, then they have homework or some kind of project. An island gives them plenty of room to get that work done. Have little ones? Bringing their arts and crafts projects to the kitchen island is a good solution for keeping them busy while keeping an eye on them. An island is also an ideal spot to display those fresh flowers or a beautiful bowl of fruit.
Whether you need more seating or just want a place for a quick bite, adding an extension to your island's countertop and some chairs or stools creates an informal dining area that provides the perfect spot for you to entertain or just hang with your family.
And that's the beauty of a kitchen island.
Recently new clients came to us with an intriguing plan. They wanted to build a new home on their existing lot located downtown along the Des Moines River, but they wanted this house to look like an old warehouse converted into a residential space. Very contemporary, loads of concrete, complete with a rooftop patio and greenhouse. We jumped at the prospect!
Our clients wanted to ensure their home fit in with the existing older neighborhood, while providing them all the modern creature comforts they desired. They plan to retire and live out their years in this new home, and came to us with a very thorough vision for what that would look like, even including a dumbwaiter for when they no longer wish to carry packages up the stairs. Brilliant planning!
The interior of the home will also have that converted-warehouse feel. Not only is the structure concrete - so are the floors! What a unique style, and such a cool environment to reside in. These baby-boomers are very hip - and really onto something. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see this neighborhood pop up with similar style properties down the road. I think Vicki and David just may be trendsetting this part of downtown.
